By VETTAPHARMA reporter – Derek Roche: Roche’s U.S. subsidiary Genentech has announced plans to invest approximately $750 million in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility at its existing campus in Hillsboro, Oregon. The expansion will add end-to-end manufacturing capabilities for injectable medicines and delivery devices and is expected to create 250 specialized manufacturing jobs.
The new facility will double the size of Genentech’s existing Hillsboro operation and support the assembly and filling of advanced drug delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors. The flexible manufacturing capacity will accommodate both high- and low-volume production across Roche and Genentech’s portfolio, supporting changing manufacturing requirements as the pipeline evolves.
Commercial operations at the new facility are expected to begin in 2031. In addition to approximately 250 manufacturing positions, the project is expected to generate approximately 200 construction jobs during site development.
The investment will expand Genentech’s ability to provide end-to-end device filling capabilities in the United States. According to the company, these delivery devices can provide patients with more convenient ways to receive medicines outside hospital settings.
The Hillsboro expansion follows the recent topping out of Genentech’s new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, which is being developed to support global production of the company’s future portfolio of metabolic medicines, including next-generation obesity treatments.
Roche and Genentech currently operate 13 manufacturing sites and 15 research and development sites in the United States, employing approximately 25,000 people across 24 locations in eight states.
