Roche launches AI-powered Liver Disease Panel targeting billions with chronic liver conditions

By VETTAPHARMA reporter – Derek Roche: Roche launched the Liver Disease Panel, described as the first comprehensive suite of certified algorithms designed to support management of chronic liver disease (CLD) across the patient care pathway.

The panel integrates biomarker-based diagnostics with digital algorithms, including the CE-marked LiverPRO algorithm developed with health technology company Evido. The tool requires only age and a minimum of three out of nine routine blood-based biomarkers to assess the risk of liver fibrosis, enabling earlier and non-invasive disease detection.

Chronic liver disease affects approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide, while metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) impacts nearly 38% of the global population, making it one of the fastest-growing causes of liver cancer globally.

The Liver Disease Panel combines multiple clinically validated tools, including:

  • LiverPRO for fibrosis risk assessment
  • ADAPT with Elecsys PRO-C3 for fibrosis severity evaluation
  • GAAD with Elecsys AFP and Elecsys PIVKA II for hepatocellular carcinoma assessment

The platform also incorporates established clinical scoring systems such as FIB-4 Index, MELD Scores, ALBI Score, Child-Pugh Score, and the Lille Model, all integrated within Roche’s navify Algorithm Suite.

The launch reflects Roche’s strategy of expanding digital diagnostics, AI-enabled clinical decision support, and integrated biomarker platforms to improve disease detection and workflow efficiency in high-burden chronic diseases.

For patients, the panel may improve access to earlier and less invasive liver disease assessment, potentially enabling faster intervention before progression to cirrhosis or liver cancer. By reducing dependence on invasive procedures, the platform could also support broader screening and monitoring in routine clinical settings.

From a commercial perspective, the Liver Disease Panel strengthens Roche’s position in digital diagnostics and AI-driven healthcare infrastructure, particularly as healthcare systems increasingly adopt integrated clinical decision tools and non-invasive disease management technologies.
