Merck Partners with Google Gemini for AI-Driven Transformation

Merck & Co. has announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate enterprise-wide adoption of agentic artificial intelligence (AI), marking a significant step in the company’s digital transformation journey.

The collaboration, valued at up to $1 billion, will deploy an agentic AI platform across research and development (R&D), manufacturing, commercial, and corporate functions. This initiative will integrate Google Cloud engineers directly with Merck teams to implement advanced AI technologies, including Gemini Enterprise.

A key objective of the partnership is to digitize operations and enhance productivity for approximately 75,000 employees worldwide, while advancing Merck’s mission of improving global health outcomes. The companies aim to create an intelligent “agentic ecosystem” where AI systems actively assist human teams in decision-making and execution.

The deployment will span end-to-end workflows, including optimizing R&D processes, improving manufacturing efficiency through predictive analytics, enhancing commercial engagement via data-driven personalization, and automating corporate functions.

According to Merck’s Chief Information and Digital Officer, this collaboration represents the “next phase” of the company’s AI evolution, transitioning from traditional digital tools to an integrated, intelligent AI-driven enterprise.

By combining Merck’s scientific expertise with Google Cloud’s AI and cloud capabilities, the partnership is expected to drive scientific innovation, operational efficiency, and faster development and delivery of treatments.
