By VETTAPHARMA reporter – Derek Roche: The Turkish Competition Authority (TCA) has launched an investigation into Teva Pharmaceuticals to determine whether the company engaged in practices that may have restricted competition from generic medicines.
The investigation covers Teva İlaçları San. ve Tic. AŞ, Teva Pharmaceuticals Europe B.V. and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. The Turkish Competition Authority said the investigation will assess whether Teva’s conduct violated Article 6 of Act No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition.
The investigation follows a preliminary inquiry into Teva’s alleged use of divisional patent procedures and practices that may have created a misleading impression before healthcare authorities regarding the efficacy and safety of competing products.
According to the Authority, the investigation will examine whether Teva’s patent-related practices made it more difficult for generic medicines to enter the market. In particular, it will assess divisional patent applications relating to manufacturing processes and dosage regimens filed after expiration of protection for the company’s basic molecule patent.
The Authority will also examine Teva’s withdrawal practices associated with these patents and whether these practices were capable of restricting competition from generic medicines.
The Competition Board launched the investigation through its decision dated August 6, 2026, numbered 26-28/804-M. The Turkish Competition Authority published the announcement on August 21, 2026.
Teva is a global pharmaceutical company with patented products across several therapeutic areas, including neurology and immunology. The investigation concerns whether the company’s patent strategies in the relevant circumstances could have restricted generic competition.
The launch of an investigation does not mean that Teva has been found to have violated competition law. The Turkish Competition Authority will determine whether the practices under investigation constitute a violation of Article 6 of Act No. 4054.
