By VETTAPHARMA reporter – Derek Roche: GSK plc announced that China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has approved Exdensur (depemokimab) as an add-on therapy for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in adult patients. The therapy is indicated for patients who do not achieve adequate disease control with systemic corticosteroids and/or surgery.
Exdensur is described as the first and only ultra-long-acting biologic in China for CRSwNP, representing a significant advancement in treatment options for patients suffering from this chronic inflammatory condition.
The approval is supported by data from the ANCHOR-1 and ANCHOR-2 Phase III trials, which demonstrated clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements in key disease measures, including nasal polyp size and nasal obstruction compared with placebo.
In clinical evaluation, outcomes were assessed over 52 weeks, with depemokimab showing measurable reductions in disease severity versus placebo, reinforcing its therapeutic benefit in CRSwNP management.
Exdensur has also recently received approval in China as an add-on maintenance treatment for severe asthma characterised by an eosinophilic phenotype in adult and paediatric patients aged 12 years and older, further expanding its clinical utility across respiratory and immunological conditions.
The therapy is designed for twice-yearly dosing, positioning it as a differentiated biologic option that may reduce treatment burden for patients compared to more frequently administered therapies.
